Big Ear
Dec 2021
OK so December 2021 was a bit weirdly oversized - first a shoot with a life size snow globe and now a giant ear.
This was for another wonderful project with the Empathy Museum, who I have worked with before. This project is called ‘Citizens Advise Bureau’ and is part of the Compass festival in Leeds. The idea was to asking members of the public to give us their best bit of advice and to lure them in we constructed a Giant ear in a stall in Kirkgate Market to get their attention and offered people a photo to take away with them after the brief shoot with me - averaging about 1-2 mins.
This was a high speed operation with stress built in - pitching / enticing / convincing strangers to participate, then getting them relaxed enough to not notice that they were in public, and then printing out a photo for them to take away, before sending them to Clare and Cathy to write their advice. I wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my fab assistant Sarah Ogelsby
Here is a taster of some top advice from Leeds -
‘Measure twice Cut once’
‘Brush your teeth in the shower’
‘If you don’t ask you don’t get’
‘Only clean your house when people are coming around’
‘Aubergines are underrated’
*** update **** It looks like we will be back in Leeds collecting more advice in 2022.
